40,000 youth to be mentored by local businesses – Awal Mohammed

Business Development Minister, Ibrahim Mohammed Awal The Business Development Minister has urged local businesses to accommodate some 40,000 youth for mentorship to help equip them for entrepreneurial skills development.

Speaking at the sixth made in Ghana Awards held in Accra, Mohammed Awal stated that government is lending its unflinching support to local businesses in diverse ways to make Ghana prepared to shoulder the Africa continental free trade area.

He said, “We must build and brand made in Ghana to take advantage of the larger market the intercontinental free trade agreement provides”. The Deputy Trade Minister Robert Ahomka-Lindsay on his part stated that “the truly Made in Ghana should be the logo of local manufacturers with premium quality which must go beyond the shores of the ECOWAS sub-region to benefit fully from the continental free trade area”.

The awards night did not only see the exhibition of made in Ghana goods but these goods winning prestigious awards for their contribution to the economy over the years. The chairman of the Entrepreneurs Foundation Ghana and chief executive officer, Mikaddo holdings ltd Nana Dr Michael Agyekum Addo encouraged local businesses to merge and partner with each other to stand a greater advantage in benefiting from government policies.

The Deputy Head of Missions at the US embassy in Ghana expressed hope that the continuous efforts by local businesses are making in-roads in the United States means well for the growth of the Ghanaian economy. Forty-two awards were won on the night by indigenous companies while honouring some outstanding personalities for their contribution to Ghana’s socio-economic development including the National Chief imam Nuhu Ahaributu, the Chairman of Lepers Aid Ghana, Rev. Father Andrew Campbell, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah among others. OVERALL BEST INDUSTRIALIST OF THE YEAR 2018
