Access Bank to roll out Visa contactless payment cards in Ghana

Ghana-based Access Bank has forged a partnership with payments giant Visa International to launch contactless payment cards.

Under this partnership, Access Bank will roll out Visa’s contactless “Tap and Pay” cards into the market.

The ‘Access Bank Contactless Visa card’ enables cardholders to make payments by just tapping their cards at point-of-sale (POS) terminals at merchant locations.

The chip-enabled contactless card is embedded with an antenna which allows the ‘Tap and Pay’ payment functionality.

Access Bank, which operates in 52 business locations in the country, has configured all its POS machines to accept contactless Visa cards for payments.

The bank customers as well as non-customers can obtain the contactless card by submitted their request at the bank’s branches.

Access Bank managing director Olumide Olatunji said: “We have been encouraging our customers to stay safe and connected by going cashless while using our various digital channels.

“We know these are trying times and our customers may need an extra boost during this period to feel safe.

“So to improve their payment experience, we are giving them access to a variety of options that ensure they are able to transact in a safely, effortless and secure manner.”

The latest partnership is in line with the bank’s strategy to drive digital payments adoption across its operations and in Ghana, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.Founded in 2009, Access Bank Ghana is a full-service commercial Bank that offers universal banking services to corporate, commercial, and retail customers as well as financial institutions across the country.
