Appiatse Explosion: We are hoping to reach Ghanaian diaspora for support – Dr. Joyce Aryee

Chairperson of Appiatse Support Fund Committee, Dr. Joyce Aryee, says the Committee is hoping to reach out to the Ghanaian diaspora for support in the rebuilding of the Appiatse community.

Speaking in an interview on The Pulse on Tuesday, Dr Aryee, said the Committee has developed some strategies that would help push the agenda of getting more people to support the fund.

She highlighted that one of the strategies adopted by the Committee is to speak to the media to have the information on crawlers for their audience.

This, she said will help create awareness and enable people to make contributions towards the Support Fund.

She also mentioned that another strategy the Support Fund is considering is to “write to Corporate Organisations and Businesses and Ministries and Embassies.”

She noted that international bodies such as International Organisations who are ready to support people that have to deal with disasters will also be reached out to.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy has donated GH₵50,000 to the Apeatse Support Fund established to rebuild the Appiatse community and support victims of the explosion.

“Today we collected fifty thousand cedis from the Chinese Embassy. They called us to come and collect it and so it’s coming up gradually,” she noted.

According to her, the Fund has so far received a GH₵2m pledge from the Minerals Commission, a personal donation of GH₵100,000 from President Akufo-Addo, GH₵61,000 from Pillangeo and an amount of GH₵50,000.

She noted also that currently, the Ghana Commercial Bank account opened in the name of the Fund has an amount of about GH₵68, 000 while the Stanbic Bank account has an amount of about GH₵150,000.

Dr.Joyce Aryee further called on Ghanaians to assist with donations to the Fund to support the victim and the re-building of the community.Persons can donate at GCB Bank with the account number 101130036123 and Stanbic Bank with the account number 9040009974967.The Committee has also created a website so donors can contribute their quota by accessing it.“We recognise that we live in a modern era. So we have a website: www.apiatsesupportfund.com. We can even pay on the website by using https//marketplace.usebillbox.com/096. That is for Stanbic Bank,” Rev. Aryee said.
