De Beers Group has announced that Thembinkosi Moses Madondo (pictured) will be the managing director of De Beers Group Managed Operations starting Jan. 1, 2022.
He replaces Nompumelelo “Mpumi” Zikalala, who is becoming CEO of Anglo American’s Kumba iron ore business.
A mechanical engineer, Madondo will join De Beers after 23 years at AngloGold Ashanti, where he most recently served as senior vice president, innovation and technology.
Bruce Cleaver, CEO of De Beers Group, said in a statement that Madondo’s “expertise will be essential as we continue to deliver the benefits of our FutureSmart Mining program, while ensuring we remain steadfast on our ambitious Building Forever sustainability commitments.”
Madondo has recently served on the board of the Minerals Council South Africa and Rand Refinery Ltd.
De Beers Group Managed Operations encompasses De Beers’ mining operations in Canada and South Africa.
