The striking Guaranty Trust Bank Gambia Limited workers have accused their bank Managing Director of allegedly violating the bank’s staff appraisal policy.

“ We are concerned over your recent violation of the bank policy. The recent Appraisal, which was single handedly handled by you without the due process violates the policy of the bank as per the section stated herein Section 4.5C of page 12; we quoted “Complete annual performance appraisals are reviewed and finalized by the appropriate Appraisal Committee. All decisions reached on performance appraisal after review and finalization by the Appraisal Review Committee shall be final and binding on parties concerned,” the bank staff wrote in a letter addressed to the MD.

The letter dated July 6 th 2020, further stated that the staff wouldn’t accept the promotion list shortlisted this year. They have accused the MD of not following due process to finalize the list of eligible staff, who are due for promotion.

“We are therefore not accepting the promotion list this year since there was no Appraisal Committee as per the Policy of the bank to determine the promotion list. The majority of staff promoted were approved since last year pending their provision of their University documents. We therefore, request you to immediately set up an Appraisal Committee to review and finalized promotion list for 2020,” said the statement.

The GT Bank staffers this morning embarked on a sit-down strike. They vowed that they will not return to work unless their demands are met.

We would want you to immediately effect the below

“Constituting back the Appraisal Committee as per your predecessors to deliberate on the deserving staff to be promoted accordingly(within 48 hours) Note: Failure to adhere to our demand will leave us with no option but seek other means that does not exclude external intervention and redress e.g CBG, Labour Tribunal and Office of the President,” said the striking bank workers.
