Iduapriem — The Senior Manager for Sustainability at AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, Mr Emmanuel Baidoo, has urged chiefs, opinion leaders and youth in the mine’s host communities to support the work of the Community Employment Committee.
He explained that the committee formed by the Mine is to address employment concerns of the communities and also effectively meet the expectations of all stakeholders.
So far, about 200 people from host communities have been employed through the Community Employment Procedure (CEP) which began in December, 2018.
As part of the engagement with the community leadership and the youth, the Mine has started community forums across all of its 19 host communities to address their concerns.
Speaking at the stakeholders’ meeting to review work of the Community Employment Committee, last Friday, Mr Baidoo, maintained that the mine was desirous to work closely with the host communities to ensure that all parties achieved a common goal of development.
"Iduapriem Mine will continue to do its part to sustain the goodwill and the support it enjoyed from stakeholders and to give its host communities a sustainable future." he assured.
He indicated that Iduapriem Mine had made it mandatory for all site contractors to obtain clearance from the sustainability department before medicals and induction of new employees to ensure strict compliance with the Community Employment Procedure.
The Municipal Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) in the Tarkwa- Nsuaem Municipality, Nanabanyin Acquah-Thompson, on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, called on the committee members to think about the welfare of the people and dedicate themselves wholly to the work.
He said, members should ensure that all qualified persons within the host communities get equal opportunity during recruitment within the Mine and its Third Party Contractors.
The Chief of New Mankessim, Nana Kwesi Boah, thanked management of the Mine for the effective collaboration and also advised the committee to be transparent and fair in all the recruitment processes.
On behalf of the committee, the President of the youth groups and member of the committee, Mr Frank K. Ewuley, called on all to support the work of the committee, stressing that "our doors remain opened for feedback and constructive criticisms to address all concerns.
