Ghana Navy signs security service contract with oil and gas company

The Ghana Navy and Tullow Ghana, a subsidiary of the oil and gas company Tullow Oil, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide security services in the Ghanian waters, allowing the company to continue operations in its offshore fields in the area.

Specifically, the security services will be provided at the Jubilee and TEN oil fields over the next five years. The oil and gas company will be investing a total of $23.5 million for these vessels during this period. Photo by: Ghana Navy Deputy Managing Director, Cynthia Lumo r said “ the Jubilee partners’ commitment to support the retooling of the Ghana Navy is mutually beneficial to both parties. This partnership will ensure the protection of the Ghanaian waters by providing security services in the TEN and Jubilee fields and along the coast of Ghana. We believe that this will further strengthen the relationship between the Tullow Ghana and the Ghana Navy”.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu commended the Jubilee Partners for the collaboration, saying “ Tullow Ghana and the Jubilee Partners have demonstrated commitment to sustainable production by this collaboration. The Ghana Navy will ensure that we fulfil our contractual obligations to ensure a secured maritime space for the safe operation of the TEN and Jubilee fields ”.

The five-year contract commenced on 1st January 2022 and will run until 31st December 2026, according to the statement.

In August last year, the navy signed a deal with TeamWorks Power Boats, a local Ghanaian boat building company.

Under the contract, the firm is to build a sea craft (Fibre Reinforce Plastic Boat) for the Ghana Navy as part of efforts to empower local engineering companies. The contract was signed at the Naval Headquarters in Burma Camp.
