Highlights From The Standard Chartered Fintech Festival

On Wednesday, Standard Chartered Bank marked its 125-year existence in Ghana by having a Fintech festival which was held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.

The event was a platform for Government and key stakeholders including FinTechs to showcase Ghana’s digital infrastructure. In collaboration with Bank of Ghana and SC Ventures (Innovation, ventures, and fintech investment unit of Standard Chartered) the Fintech Festival brought together FinTechs from Singapore and other parts of Asia as well as local FinTechs to showcase, engage and share future tech capabilities. The event had a host of speakers ranging from Vice President Mah amudu Bawumia Bawumia to the finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta . There were opening remarks by Board Chairman of Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC, Dr. Emmanuel Kumah, and CEO of Standard Chartered, Nigeria and West Africa, Lamin Manjong . There were also interactive panels with topics ranging from the role of digital banking, and tokenisation which included notable panelists like Kwame Oppong (Head, FinTech and Innovation Office, Bank of Ghana) and Augustine Blay (Office of the Vice President, Ghana) Other panel discussions included lessons and opportunities from Ghana’s digitisation/digitalisation journey which had notable panelists including Archie Hesse (CEO, Ghana Interbank Payment System and Settlements), Alex Bram (CEO, Hubtel), and Derrydean Dadzie (Digital Transformation Consultant and Policy Advisor).

The event also had a crawl featuring notable fintech companies including expressPay, Blu Penguin and Craft Silicon .
