Journalists asked to be circumspect in their reportage

File photo Mr Gilbert Kennedy Asmah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, has appealed to the media to be circumspect in their reportage particularly as the nation prepares for the 2020 elections.

He pointed out that “political parties would be embarking on their campaign trails to canvas for votes from the electorates, and most of these have often been characterized in some parts of the country with heated arguments, tensions, violence and conflicts”.

Speaking at a press soiree organized by the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Assembly for media practitioners in the Municipality, Mr Asmah asked journalists not to allow any needless conflicts in the name of partisan politics to destroy the peace Ghanaians have enjoyed for decades.

He said every journalist have the responsibility of safeguarding the peace and unity that have been maintained in the Municipality and the country at large, by ensuring factual, accurate, fair and balanced reportage.

He expressed the Assembly’s appreciation to the media towards improving the socio-economic advancement of the Municipality, adding that, they should continue to educate the citizenry and also project positive aspects of the Assembly.

Mr Asmah further explained that since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government came into office, the Assembly had made significant strides in education, health, agriculture, youth and sports, water and sanitation, security and infrastructure development.

The Assembly had also monitored and supervised government flagship programmes in the Municipality, to ensure effective implementation, he said.

The MCE indicated that the Assembly under his stewardship would put in more efforts to transform the socio-economic well-being of the citizenry.

Mr Asmah congratulate the newly elected assembly members and unit committee members in the recently held District Level Elections, traditional authorities, citizens of Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Municipal Security Council, his staff and former assembly members for their commitment, patience, hard work and determination.

Gold Fields Ghana Limited, Tarkwa Mine, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem mine, Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) Limited and Hotel De Hilda were rewarded by the Assembly for their enormous contributions to development in the Municipality.
