Tullow begins Ghana drill programme

Ghana news Tullow Oil has launched its drilling programme in Ghana, spudding a first well on the Jubilee field on April 5.

It has contracted the Maersk Venturer for four years. The rig will drill four wells in 2021. These will consist of two Jubilee production wells, one Jubilee water injector well and one TEN gas injector well.

“Today is an important milestone in the implementation of our long-term business plan,” said Tullow CEO Rahul Dhir.

“Working closely with the government of Ghana and our joint venture partners in Ghana, I am confident that we will unlock the full potential from the Jubilee and TEN fields through this multi-year, multi-well drilling programme.”

The company launched a 10-year business plan at its capital markets day, in November 2020. Ghana is at the heart of this plan.

The company said its Ghanaian assets have the potential to produce “material cash flow” and provide “significant value” for the country and investors.

Tullow also noted the importance of local content in Ghana, citing its shared prosperity strategy.

The company was using the Maersk Venturer in the country in 2020, before cutting the rig ahead of time.
