LONDON – Production has been strong at the deepwater Jubilee and TEN fields offshore Ghana this year, according to operator Tullow Oil .

During July and August, Jubilee averaged 90,000 b/d and TEN 50,000 b/d. Factors boosting performance were increased gas offtake nominations from the Ghana National Gas Co.; approval from the Ministry of Energy to temporarily increase flaring; a higher than forecast facility uptime of more than 95% at both fields’ FPSOs; and improved reliability/redundancy in Jubilee’s water injection facilities.

At the start of August TEN’s Ntomme-09 production well came onstream, and this is currently delivering around 5,000 b/d. The drillship Maersk Venturer has departed, but tenders are under way for a rig to resume activity offshore Ghana in 2021.

Later this month a catenary anchor leg mooring buoy should be installed for the Jubilee turret remediation program, with commissioning set to be completed during 4Q.

Elsewhere in West Africa, the company will monitor Total’s Venus-1 well, due to spud later this year on a block south of Tullow’s PEL-90 acreage, before deciding on next steps.

Offshore Mauritania, decommissioning of the Chinguetti field’s wells has been suspended following the government’s decision in March to close the country’s borders due to COVID-19 .

In mid-July, Tullow signed contracts for two new operated exploration licenses in blocks Z-67 and Z-68 offshore Peru’s Ancash region.

The blocks – 700 km (435 mi) south of the company’s existing Z-38 and Z-64 licenses – are 80-160 km (50-99.4 mi) offshore and cover a combined area of around 12,000 sq km (4,633 sq mi).

Tullow hopes to resume seismic acquisition offshore Argentina in 4Q, with its program having been suspended since May due to COVID-19.
