WE ARE READY TO STEP INTO SUCCESS WITH SPORTS IN GHANA – REPUBLIC BANK MD

The Managing Director of Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC, Mr. Farid Antar, has reiterated the Bank’s commitment to supporting sports development in Ghana. The Managing Director gave this assurance when Republic Bank presented an amount of Two Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis to the National Team – the Black Stars of Ghana at a brief ceremony at the office of the Minister of Youth and Sports in Accra.

The presentation was in response to a call made by His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to Corporate Organizations in the country to support the Black Stars as they prepare to participate in the 2022 AFCON Tournament in Cameroun as well as the qualifying series of the 2022 World Cup Tournament in Qatar.

According to the Managing Director, Republic Bank is a major sponsor of sports in the Caribbean. Republic Bank has been supporting the leading sports in the Caribbean which are Crickets and Athletics. The Managing Director added that in Ghana, football is the passion of the nation and continues to be a galvanizing force that brings people together. He also noted that the COVID pandemic affected people in many ways including mental health and that sport has the potential to lighten the mood of people. "A win for the Black Stars is not only a win for country but also a source of joy and happiness for many" he said.

The Managing Director assured the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Bank’s continued support towards sports and youth development in Ghana. Republic Bank has supported Athletics development with a 3-year sponsorship of Basic and Senior High School athletics under the Ghana Education Service youth athletic festival from 2016 – 2019.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the team, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Honourable Mustapha Ussif thanked the Managing Director of Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC for their kind gesture. He promised to ensure that the money is put to its intended use – which is to support the Black Stars towards their preparation for the games.

Present at the presentation ceremony were Director of Finance of the Youth & Sports Ministry, Mr. Osman Haruna, General Manager, Commercial and Retail Banking, Republic Bank, Mr. Joseph L. Ashong, Managing Director Republic Boafo, a subsidiary of Republic Bank, Mrs. Evelyn Osei-Tutu, the Manager, Marketing and Communications, Mrs. Genevieve Aboney and the CSRO, Mr. Kojo Awudey.
