Accra, Nov. 28, GNA – The Wisconsin International University College, Ghana has held its 12th congregation, which saw 779 students graduating with Diploma, First Degree, and Post-Graduate certificates in Accra.
The University College has also received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board to pursue degree programmes in Nursing, Law and Business Studies at its Kumasi Campus.
It would begin programmes such as Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies in January, next year.
Professor Obeng Mireku, the President of the University College, disclosed this at the Congregation held at the Agbogba Campus in Accra, on the theme: “Quality Education: The Role of Tertiary Institutions.”
The 779 who graduated comprised 52 Diploma, 613 First Degree and 144 Post-Graduate students.
Professor Mireku said the accreditation for the Kumasi Campus was due to hard work and the vision and leadership of the Chancellor, the Board of Directors, the University Council, and the support of its mentoring universities.
It also had the backing of the Agricultural Development Bank and Access Bank among other financial institutions for the expansion of infrastructure.
Prof. Mireku said for almost two decades, the University College had been educating, equipping and empowering Ghanaians and Africans in general to serve their nations and the World.
He said the Career Services Centre had introduced the Students Entrepreneurial Challenge, which sought to recognize and nurture students who had set up enterprises.
Through internships, work placements and industry training provided at the Centre many of the graduating students had had the opportunity to develop technical and soft skills relevant to industry.Prof. Mireku said the institution had opened an on-campus remedial programme through which senior high school students were assisted to improve on their West Africa Senior High School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).A 100 per cent pass rate had been recorded for all candidates presented for re-sit for various WASSCE subjects, he said.“The Wisconsin International University College is meeting the target of building and upgrading education facilities that are humane, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environment that stimulates cultural diversity,” he said.Dr Ngozi E. Egbuna, the Director-General of the West Africa Monetary Institute, urged the graduating students to use the knowledge acquired to help develop their various countries.Nana Akwasi Sarpong Kumakuma, who graduated with Bachelor of Arts in Business Studies, was adjudged the Overall Best Student.GNA
