Central Bank of Kenya plans to let Airtel users pay via Safaricom's Lipa na M-Pesa by 2024

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) says it will launch a national payment system to force Safaricom to accept cash from rivals such as Airtel on its Lipa na M-Pesa platform, enabling transfers of money through merchants, Business Daily reported. It is due to be introduced by 2024 and will remove the hurdle to Airtel subscribers paying for goods and services through Safaricom’s till and pay-bill numbers.
