Popular Supermarket Slashes Prices of Basic Commodities

Customers queueing at a supermarket in Kenya The Machakos County Government under the leadership of Governor Alfred Mutua has unveiled an innovative plan to cushion its residents following the Covid 19 protocols.

In a press statement released this afternoon, the governor announced that the county had partnered with Mulleys Supermarket and other private businesses to have the prices of basic commodities reduced during these tough economic times. He appealed to other Kenyan businesses to follow suit .

The commodities whose prices have been reduced are mostly food stuff and household good that most families need on a daily. They include flour, cooking oil, soaps, tissues, milk, bread among others. The local transport used by locals known as Marutis and tuktuks will not pay any fee until June 30th, 2021.

The county government also issued a 100% waiver on interest and penalties of land rates for a period of 45 days up to May 15th, 2021 as well as suspension of Land subdivision charges suspended for 3 months up to June 30th, 2021.

Monthly registration fees by public transport operators reduced by 50 percent.

Fire license fees in small businesses suspended for the rest of this calendar year.

“Each one of us need to have a humanitarian heart and do something within our powers and ability to assist Kenyans," Mutua stated.

The county government slashed tariff paid by wholesalers and distributors by 50 percent and on distribution permits and parking fees for the distribution vehicles.

Private schools also benefited getting 50 percent waive r on their single business permit for this calendar year.

The governor called upon the petroleum industry, Kenya Power and Lighting Company and Landlords to forfeit a bit of their profits to cushion Kenyans. Items on display at a supermarket.File
