Safaricom Announces 5-Hour M-Pesa Unavailabity on Friday

In a statement, the telco revealed that the maintenance would start a minute before the end of Thursday running through to Friday at 5 a.m.

"In this regard, our M-Pesa services shall be undergoing planned maintenance tonight Thursday, July 2, 2020, starting from 2359 hrs to 0500 hrs. "During the maintenance, all M-Pesa services including airtime purchase shall be temporarily unavailable," reads the statement in part.

Safaricom explained that the timing of the maintenance activity has been planned to result in the least inconvenience to their customers.

The communications company has made a number of improvements on M-Pesa including the launching of the Lipa Na M-Pesa Business app that empowers business owners to access real-time statements, export statements, and track their business performance on the go.

Safaricom has now announced its fourth M-Pesa maintenance as it aims to improve its mobile money services to its customers.

The first scheduled maintenance was announced on Wednesday, June 17 that was slated for Thursday from midnight to 5 a.m.

On Wednesday, June 28 it announced another scheduled maintenance for the mobile-money platform that was slated for the following day.

The third maintenance was announced on Sunday, June 28 with the same timing of 12 o’clock to Monday, June 29 at 5 am to reduce customer inconvenience.

Safaricom customers can process their mobile money transactions before the five-hour planned maintenance or wait till Thursday after 5 am to use M-Pesa.
