Safaricom retires platinum services, migrates customers to alternative services

NAIROBI, Kenya July 29 – Safaricom Wednesday said it will retire its Platinum services effective 30 th August as part of its strategy to review products, services and harmonise customer experience.

Through a statement, the telco said the platinum customers will be migrated to alternative plans with more value; the All in One or the new Karibu Post Pay plans which offers more voice or data.

“In October 2019, when we renewed our commitment to be simple,transparent and honest with our customers and services to harmonize customer experience and ensure that our customers were getting the best value,” Safaricom said.

“As part of the review process, our loyal platinum customers will be upgraded to the All in one plan or the new Karibu PostPay plan with non expiry resources, which offer more voice and data,” the firm added.

Those customers whose services are on auto renew will be migrated to All in One auto- renew plans while those who purchase on a one off basis can subscribe to the All –in-one plans.

“To ensure a seamless transition, the Platinum plans will be retired on 30 th August after which all Platinum Postpay customers will be migrated to the new Karibu PostPay,” part of the statement noted.

The firm has urged all platinum customers to choose alternative services while affirming its commitment to better services, provision of relevant products and lifestyle-focused services.

“Through this process, we are re affirming our commitment to serve you better and offer relevant products and services that answer to your lifestyle,” the firm further said.

The Platinum plan was launched in 2018 as part of a move aimed at targeting and carving a niche of premium customers.

Under the plan, customers would spend between Sh 2,000 and Sh 10,000 in a monthly plan offering voice, SMS and unlimited data services.
