Showmax, Safaricom unveil exciting streaming deals

Showmax 1 Showmax and Safaricom have partnered to offer customers two months of streaming for the price of one.

During the launch of this offer, representatives of both firms said the partnership will make it easier for Kenyans to pay for and watch their favourite shows on their mobile devices.

The streaming company offers African and international entertainment with live sports from SuperSport.

In this partnership, customers will be able to choose from two mobile data deals, 60 days which will come with 1GB at a price of Sh389 or 60 days at a price of Sh1,299 with the latter being Showmax Pro, instead of the usual 30-day subscription.

The deal which is valid from 1 February to 31 March 2022 is exclusive to Safaricom customers and the data bundles will only be used to stream what one is watching on the streamer.

Nathan Hanley, Chief Expansion Officer – MultiChoice said they are always looking at ways to make it easier for fans to watch Showmax.

“Our partnership with Safaricom gives our customers the convenience of a single payment for both entertainment and data to make streaming quick and easy while giving them an extra 30 days of watching,” said Hanley.

This deal with Safaricom will make it easier for Kenyan streaming fans to pay via M-Pesa in one go.

“As a digital-first company, we want to avail affordable devices and data bundles and leverage our extensive 4G coverage to enable Kenyans to access a new world of content from the comfort of their phones. Through this partnership, our customers can now enjoy their favourite shows on Showmax using bundles that provide value and convenience,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO – Safaricom PLC.

Last week, MultiChoice Group (Kenya) Managing Director Nancy Matimu said that DStv subscribers will from next month be able to stream content from the MultiChoice Group-owned pay-TV service without using a decoder.

She said that this was the latest plan to venture into the over-the-top (OTT) service is informed by the young generation “who are always on the Internet.”“We need to move and capture that value and be able to give great service to Kenyans and shift with the times,” she said. “And without saying much, I just want to mention at this point that we shall be launching a streaming service in March, which will be decoder-less and dishless.
