TECNO Camon 17 Pro 90Hz FHD display Late last month, we reported that TECNO was planning to launch 5G smartphones. We now know which device will take the lead and it’s not a flagship device.

Looks like TECNO will enter the 5G smartphone market with a budget smartphone – the TECNO POVA 5G .

The POVA series is the company’s lineup of gaming smartphones packing huge batteries and the TECNO POVA 5G sticks with the same theme with a 6000mAh battery.

It will also sport 18W fast charging.

Powering the TECNO POVA 5G will be MediaTek Dimensity 900 processor . This same processor powers the recently launched OPPO Reno6 5G . This is pretty incredible for an entry-level smartphone.

We recently sat down with Rami Osman , MediaTek’s Director of Sales and Marketing, the Middle East and Africa shared with us about their 5G plans pointing out that their Dimensity chips which already have 5G radios embedded will make 5G smartphones more affordable and thus increase global 5G adoption.

Mr. Rami adds that the chip-maker has partnered up with Safaricom to ensure that MTK chips, especially the ones supporting 5G (Dimensity as the case of the OPPO Reno6 5G ) are working perfectly with the carrier’s network.

Mr Osman said that MediaTek is working with partners like TECNO to bring affordable 5G devices to the country. MediaTek Believes Kenya Needs Many Affordable 5G Phones for 5G to Grow, But it Has a Plan

TECNO POVA 5G will rock a 6.9″ LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution at 1080p. The display will have a punch-hole cutout for its selfie camera. Here’s a render courtesy of TechArena 24 on YouTube.
