UP attacks oppositions

Opposition political parties in Liberia, prime among them, the Liberty Party, have come under attack by the ruling Unity Party, with claims that when opposition leaders meet foreign guests or travel to other countries, they portray their own government as “messy” and that Liberia is being headed for chaos.

During a mid week talkshow on 29 January on Truth FM 96.1 in Paynesville, outside Monrovia, Unity Party Secretary General Wilmot Paye said, there are political parties leaders in the country that make negative comments intended to damage the image of their own government, coupled with claims that the Sirleaf led administration is heading the country for chaos, whenever they meet with foreign guests or travel to other countries.

Citing an instance, Paye made reference to a meeting that he said was held in November when a visiting US State Department official Jason Small, met with hierarchies of five political parties, which he said included the main opposition Congress for Democratic Change or CDC, the Liberty Party, LP; the Unity Party, UP; the National Union for Democratic Progress, NUDP and the Alternative National Congress or ANC, at the American Embassy near Monrovia.
