Stock market gains N75bn on blue-chip firms

Equity trading on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Tuesday closed on a positive note with a gain of N75bn as the bulls regained grip on trading activities.

The Nigerian Stock Exchange All-Share Index appreciated by 0.36 per cent with market breadth closing positive with 27 gainers against 20 losers.

The ASI appreciated by 145.17 basis points or 0.36 per cent to close at 40,295.95bps as against 40,150.95bps recorded the previous trading session.

The market capitalisation of equities grew by N75bn from N20.99tn the previous day to N21.07tn on Tuesday as market sentiment remained in the positive territory.

Meanwhile, a turnover of 1.17 billion shares exchanged in 5,592 deals was recorded in the day’s trading.

The insurance subsector was the most active (measured by turnover volume), with 100.95 million shares exchanged by investors in 415 deals.

Volume in the subsector was largely driven by activities in the shares of AXA-Mansard Insurance Plc and Lasaco Assurance Plc.

Also, the premium subsector was boosted by the activities in the shares of FBNH Plc and Zenith Bank Plc, with a turnover of 81.74 million shares in 1,691 deals.

Further analysis of the day’s trading showed that in percentage terms Niger Insurance Plc, Omatek Nigeria Plc, Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc and Nascon Plc topped the day’s gainers’ table with 10 per cent each to close at 22 kobo, 22 kobo, 33 kobo and N15.95 per share respectively.

ARDOVA Plc followed with 9.75 per cent to close at N19.70 per share, while NCR Plc added 9.69 per cent to close at N2.15 per share.On the other hand, Oando Plc led the losers with a drop of 5.41 per cent to close at N3.50 per share while UAC-Property Plc and Deap Capital Plc shed 4.76 per cent each to close at 80 kobo and 20 kobo per share respectively.Courteville Business Solutions Plc declined by 4.35 per cent to close at 22 kobo per share.
