Equity Bank’s Brad Elliott says it was 2004 when he first approached American State Bank & Trust Co. about a partnership. It took some time, but 17 years later, the two banks closed Friday on a merger that put it all under the Equity Bancshares umbrella and continued a long period of growth for Wichita-based Equity.
Believed to be the largest bank acquisition in Kansas history, Equity Bank acquired American State’s 17 locations across the state, giving Equity Bank a total of about 70 locations across four states and $5 billion in assets.
Elliott joined me for this week’s BizTalk with Bill Roy Podcast. It’s Episode 227.
The acquisition makes Equity Bank second in the Wichita market for commercial market share. American State shareholders will now have Equity Bancshares stock, and the weekend will be spent bringing the two banks’ systems together.
Elliott talked about Equity Bank’s string of additions through acquisitions — and whether acquisitions will change during and after Covid-19. He also talked about the future of the banking industry.
My thanks to Brad for joining me to talk about Equity’s big news.
