CORONAVIRUS: KQ suspends 6 routes, reduces frequencies on 3

The airline has suspended six routes; these include the Nairobi – London route, the Nairobi – Paris route, the Nairobi – Bangkok route and the Nairobi – Dubai route/FILE NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 18 – Kenya Airways has suspended and/or reduced flights on some of its major routes, joining other airlines around the world in grappling with the unprecedented existential threat caused by the novel coronavirus.

The airline says it has reviewed its network and flight schedule to comply with directives issued by different countries across its network in the wake of the virus’ outbreak.

The airline has suspended six routes; these include the Nairobi – London route, the Nairobi – Paris route, the Nairobi – Bangkok route, and the Nairobi – Dubai route.

Two weekly flights on the Nairobi – London route and Nairobi – Paris routes have been suspended effective March 19 to April 16 and March 25 to April 16 respectively.

Other frequencies on the routes, however, remain uninterrupted.

Other routes that have faced total suspension include the Nairobi – Bangkok route, the Nairobi – Djibouti route and the Nairobi – Mogadishu route.

Routes facing reduced frequency include the Nairobi – Dubai route, the Nairobi – Johannesburg route and the Nairobi – Kigali route.

“These changes are necessary to ensure optimal and efficient operations and the airline will continue to make adjustments as the situation demands,” KQ said through its Corporate Communications office.

The airline has assured affected customers that they shall rebook them on alternative flights, extend a full refund to those wishing to cancel or waive booking fees for those willing to reschedule their flights.
