Goil workers and other workers mark labour Day

GOIL The Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL), the nation’s foremost indigenous oil marketing company, on Wednesday joined the Ghanaian worker to celebrate International Labour Day 2019 with a call for rejuvenation of the sense of patriotism.

“As we mark the 2019 Labour Day, the Board, Management and Staff of GOIL whilst congratulating the Ghanaian worker for exhibiting the spirit of resilient and hard work, we wish to call for a sense of patriotism.

“We must begin to focus on Ghana as a nation first instead of our individual interest, so together we can build the country for future generation. As we mark the day, we must also reflect on our individual contribution towards nation building,” Mr Patrick Kwame Akpe Akorli, GOIL Group Chief Executive Officer told the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

Mr Akorli who is also the GOIL Managing Director said GOIL believe in the potential of the indigenous Ghanaian companies, therefore, GOIL will continue to showcase the ability of local entrepreneurs to contribute to the building of this nation.

“Ghanaians should also reciprocate and support local companies by patronising our products and services. This is the only way we can empower local companies to meet the competition being offered by the multinationals.

“Ghanaians must take firm control of the economy. And I challenge local leaders to exhibit high sense of patriotism and commit to building Ghana”.

Mr Akorli, who is also known as Togbe Adza-Nye IV, Dutorfia of Ziavi in the Volta Region, said while celebrating the achievements of workers over the years, “we must also do away with negative attitude and actions that work against our collective interest as a nation”.

The GOIL MD also used the occasion to applaud the role of religious and traditional leaders, civil society organisations, political parties, security personnel, farmers and the media for their valuable contribution towards the development of the nation.

“GOIL also appreciates the efforts of stakeholders in the transport sector, formal and informal sector, private and public sector actors, as well as the general public for working towards building Ghana”.

He said GOIL would continue to ‘oil’ the state with prudent management of oil resources to protect operations in the downstream sector.

Mr Akorli said GOIL had undertaken huge investment focusing on the roll-out of new service stations and face-lifting of existing ones geared towards maintaining a leading role in the downstream sector.
