Methodist School wins Pepsodent Empty Tube Challenge

Accra, Dec. 20, GNA – The Gbegbeyise A/B Methodist School has emerged the overall winner out of the more than 300 basic schools that participated in the 2019 Pepsodent Empty Tube Challenge.

The school beat the challenge by producing 2,309 empty Pepsodent toothpaste tubes out of 36,899 that were mobilised throughout the competition.

The school was awarded with a multi-purpose printer, exercise books, boxes of chalk and toothpastes, teaching and learning materials; and souvenirs from Unilever Ghana.

The Star of the Sea School and Nii Kojo Ababio Cluster of Schools came in second and third, respectively.

The fourth to 10th highest performing schools were the Kaneshie Kingsway One Basic School, Gbegbeshie Basic School, Mamprobi Salvation Army B. Primary School, Kanda ‘3’ Primary School, Mamprobi E.P. Basic, Ebenezer AME Zion and the Ministry of Health Basic School.

Mr Joel Boateng, Category Manager at Unilever Ghana, said the Challenge was a fun competition that ran from October to December and was aimed at promoting good oral health among school children.

Every year, he said, they partnered the Ghana Dental Association and the Ghana Education Service to go to schools to teach them the correct way of brushing their teeth and to form the healthy habit of brushing twice daily.

“This year, Pepsodent introduced the Schools Tube Challenge as a fun competition to make the Brush Day and Night campaign more exciting for children and schools,” he said.

“The quality of a child’s oral care can have an impact beyond obvious medical problems, like bad breath and dental pain. It can also limit their potential and negatively impact their self-esteem. That is why we are committed to improving oral health among children”.

Madam Vida Cofie, Headmistress of the Gbegbeyise Methodist A/B School, commended the students, teachers, and staff of the school, who contributed to the victory.

She commended, especially, Madam Mina Delali Tsorblewu, a teacher, for taking up the challenge to lead and coordinate the school’s activities related to the competition.“We are most grateful for the multi-purpose printer, and particularly, the plaque for the School.“The Ghana Education Service has directed all schools to have their mission and vision statements posted in the school and the plaque will serve that purpose,” she said.GNA
