PFJ: Over 2 million Ghanaians have been employed in 3 years – Ofori-Atta

– The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has indicated that the Planting for Food and Jobs Programme has led to the employment of over 2.28 million people

– He also revealed that records show there is an increase in jobs in areas such as planting, weeding, harvesting, processing, loading, and offloading of farm inputs

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has revealed that the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme has created employment opportunities for over 2.28 million Ghanaians.

He explained that available data show an upsurge in jobs in the areas of planting, weeding, harvesting, processing, loading, and offloading of farm inputs.

Ofori-Atta gave details on the success of the programme when he presented the mid-year budget review to Parliament on July 23, 2020.

Per a report by thebftonline.com , Ofori-Atta reiterated that the programme was designed to create jobs and achieve other important objectives.

He went on to say there has also been a significant increase in the productivity of the crops.

This, he said, was due to the use of improved seeds and fertilizer made available to farmers.Ofori-Atta also said there was a 56.6% increase in the export of food items to neighbouring countries between 2016 and 2019.According to him, the government has begun construction on 30 warehouses across the country.Each of them, he noted, will have a capacity of 1000 MT and will help ensure food security while reducing post-harvest losses.In other news, Ofori-Atta has predicted the year 2020 and beyond will be filled with economic challenges for Ghana .According to him, this is mainly due to the impact of the outbreak of the coronavirus on the economy and livelihoods of Ghanaians.In his view, the coronavirus has negatively affected businesses and livelihoods all over the world and Ghana is no exception.
