StanChart Endowment Fund supports 31 University students

Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Limited has disbursed a total of GH₵71,000.00 to support 31 brilliant and needy students from five public universities.

The money is the first tranche of a total amount of GH₵300,000.00 that the students would receive over a four-year period.

The beneficiary students were from the University of Ghana, Legon, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University College of Education, Winneba, University of Development Studies and University of Cape Coast.

The students will benefit from two endowment funds, the Standard Chartered Science Education Trust Fund and Standard Chartered Kenneth Dadzie Memorial Education Trust Fund.

The Kenneth Dadzie Fund focuses on postgraduate programmes; Economics and business courses, the Science Education Fund, covers both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students pursuing Science.

To be eligible, beneficiaries must be needy and brilliant and must have demonstrated good conduct whilst pursuing their courses.

Speaking to the beneficiaries, Dr Emmanuel Kumah, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Limited, said the Bank has a long history of contributing to social and economic development and supporting communities where it operated.

“We believe everyone should have access to opportunities to realize his or her full potential and believe that we can make a difference in promoting economic inclusion in Ghana. This underscores our Brand promise to be ‘Here for good,’” he said.

Dr Kumah said the support partly covered tuition and accommodation for the four year period.

In addition to programmes and schemes, staff of the Bank will engage the beneficiaries in mentoring sessions to share skills and build the capacity of young people to access jobs and economic opportunities that will help close the inequality gap.

Dr Kumah urged the students to take the mentoring sessions seriously, ask questions and draw on the rich experience of your mentors.Mrs Mansa Nettey, CEO, Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Limited, said the support was align with the United Nation’s sustainability agenda to promote quality education, gender equality and wellbeing.“Standard Chartered is a proud supporter of the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
