Unilever Ghana Multipurpose Learning Centre opened

Unilever Unilever Ghana on Tuesday unveiled its multi-purpose learning centre in Tema to serve as a training hub for employees to gain the requisite skills to improve business efficiency.

The Centre has a learning theatre, which accommodates 80 people, an e-library, a syndicate area for 16 people, a conference room, a server room for IT infrastructure and a kitchen.

Mr Nazaire Djako, the Supply Chain Director, Unilever Ghana, said the newly furnished Centre was in response to the growing need to provide an in-house learning facility for employees and stakeholders for research and to upgrade their skills for the growth of the company.

“The Centre is a testament to the company’s commitment to driving a culture of learning and development among our employees. This has earned us top Employee Award for five consecutive years in the country and Best Organisation in Learning and Development Practice in 2017 by the Institute of Human Resource Management and Practice,” he added.

Mr Djako said the company’s objective was to make sustainable living a commonplace through the quality of products it manufactured and distributed and the relationship it forged with the stakeholders.

He said the objective was in line with the company’s business model, which had been running since 2010; the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, committed to, among other things, improve the health and hygiene needs of a billion people across the world.

He said Unilever had introduced social intervention programmes to educate the public, especially school children, on how to brush their teeth and wash their hands properly.

Mr Djako explained that those interventions were to promote oral and personal health habits among the citizenry.

“So far Ghana has touched over 4.6 million people through the ‘brush day and night’ campaign and three million people through the hand washing campaign”.

It had also invested in environmentally friendly technology and operations such as water treatment plant, solar energy project, biomas boiler, orals factory and personal care dryer.

Mr Jeremy Hunt, the United Kingdom Foreign Secretary, who assisted Mr Djako to unveil the facility, commended the company for the great strides in building the capacity of employees. He lauded it for the Sustainability Plan, adding that the location of the company was an indication of the country’s ambition to drive its export products.Mr Hunt and his entourage toured the facility to acquaint himself with its operations.
