Safaricom always schedules maintenance works over the night, and those exercises often take place during the weekend.
Several service upgrades have been done over the year, and we have come to expect them from time to time provided the activities are here to make the network better.
The same thing is happening tonight (Sat 21 st Aug 2021).
According to Safaricom, the following services will be unavailable:

Balance enquiry
Okoa Jahazi
Tunukiwa
All Bonga Point services
PostPay Payment
Home Fibre payment All other services will be available, including the following: > Calls Data access M-PESA SMS The system upgrade will start from 10 PM to 8 AM on Sunday 22 nd , 2021. Full statement: We will be upgrading our systems to increase our capacity in line with customer growth and support more innovations to meet the different needs of our customers. To allow for a smooth upgrade, a few services including all product purchases, balance enquiry, Okoa Jahazi, Tunukiwa, all Bonga Point services, Postpaid Payment, and Home Fibre Payment will be unavailable on the night of Saturday 21 st August 2021 from 10 PM to 8 AM on Sunday 22 nd August 2021. All other services, including calls, data, M-PESA, and SMS will remain available as usual. The timing of this maintenance activity has been planned to result in the least possible inconvenience to our customers. We apologize for any inconvenience that may be caused and thank you for your continued support.
