Euronews extends African reach ahead of new channel debut

News channel Euronews has extended its reach in Lusophone Africa thanks to a new agreement with South Africa-based pay TV provider DStv, and has launched a programming strand on the Ouest TV channel in Francophone Africa. The latest deals come ahead of Euronews’ planned launch of Africanews , a dedicated multilingual pan-African news channel later this year.

DStv Africa has launched Euronews Português on GoTV+, its digital-terrestrial service in Mozambique, marking the first African DTT launch for the channel. DStv has also allocated a specific channel to Euronews Português for its customers in Mozambique and Angola. 

Euronews claims to provide the only international news channel broadcasting in Portuguese.

Euronews and Senegal-based Ouest TV have meanwhile signed an agreement allowing the African channel to rebroadcast programmes, live, from Euronews French, every hour between 18:30 and 23:30, in 30-minute segments.

Ouest TVbroadcasts in French to 24 countries in West and Central Africa. It is also available unencrypted across Sub-Saharan Africa via the Amos 5 satellite.
