Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd. (GGBL) says it has invested an amount of $10 million to meet increased consumer demands.
According to the company, the investment has gone into the acquisition of a new PET line – a 60,000 bottles per hour equipment.
Speaking to JoyBusiness at the commissioning of the PET line at its premises in Achimota on Wednesday, the Supply Chain Director of GGBL, Isaac Tosu said, the equipment is “to produce Malta Guinness, Alvaro and Origin Zero in a plastic format.” The Supply Chain Director of GGBL, Isaac Tosu, has said speaking to JoyBusiness at the commissioning of the project at the company’s premises in Achimota.
Mr Tosu said the project also seeks to create jobs for the youth.
Market share
With regards to increasing its market share, the company says one of its products, the Malta Guinness, is a flagship brand for them and because of its quality credentials and the customer loyalty with the brand, the company is not able to meet demand.
Mr Tosu is hopeful that the emergence of the new PET line will cement the company’s position as market leaders in the non-alcoholic beer category.
He said the company seeks to sell whatever it produces and does not expect to run at any loss.
Other projects
GGBL says plans are underway to execute other projects in the bid to satisfy its customers.
“The investment is just a phase but there are other projects in place but for this PET line it’s about $10 million,” he said.
He added that over the past four or five years the company has invested more than $100 million to the economy in terms of infrastructure.He said, “We’ve done two new lines in Kumasi, we’ve done upgrades and a lot of investments so that’s the level of investment we’ve put in Ghana over the last four years and that’s not the end, we are looking for other opportunities; if the economy is growing we will invest with the economy growth.” Tax stamp policy The GGBL said it is “hundred per cent” in support of the government’s tax stamp policy.Mr Tosu said so far the company has been compliant on the modern of trade in its products at Shoprite, the Game etc. and all its mainstream spirits.“Origin Bitters, Herbal Gin, we are 100% compliant and all our imported spirits, that is, the Johnny Walker range, we are 100% compliant.”
