Speakers at the MTN Momo Stakeholder Forum in Accra have called for a tighter stakeholder collaboration to enhance Ghana’s digitization agenda.
They agreed that a stronger, tighter collaboration beyond competition has an encompassing positive effect on national digitalization agenda.
The forum which was under the theme “Digitizing Payments in Ghana: A collaborative Effort for Success”, brought together various stakeholders in the financial sector including Bank of Ghana, Fintechs and some merchants.
Chief Executive Officer of MTN Mobile Money, Eli Hini in his opening presentation mentioned the need for a national agenda, partnership and industry apportioning, and elimination of competition among the industry players to unlock the momentum for successful digitization.
“We need to complement each other’s efforts and collaborate with each other. In our quest to succeed in digitizing the nation, coming together is very important and that’s why we can’t leave out partnership”, he noted.
Chief Executive of Fintech, Dr. Augustina Odame called for inclusivity in terms of language and gender, and the energy to dive deeper into the digitization agenda. “We’ve been content with playing in the shallow waters for a while but we need to go deeper”.
The Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank, Ghana also noted that the coming together of all stakeholders in the digital payment system would sooner than later give the nation a world class digitized system that they would be proud of.
She said customers can now do transactions on mobile apps without necessarily stepping into banking halls which shows how banking has evolved over the last 10 years.
The Head of Fintech and Innovation at the Bank of Ghana (BOG), Mr. Kwame Oppong noted that the bulk of Ghana’s digitization is the merchants hence BOG’s willingness to work with everyone in the sector.
He also pointed that the thrust of the digitization drive is wider that no single organization can achieve anything meaningful alone except partnership with other industry players.MTN believes Ghana has come to a point where stakeholders in the financial sector have to come together and put the customer at the center, making sure there is utmost satisfaction in whatever service is rendered to them.In the era of digital advancement, many have been yearning and calling for a more cashless economy which will be a huge factor in customer satisfaction.Constant education and information on digitization to the customer, resulting from pleasant partnerships among stakeholders cannot be ruled out, hence making the forum […]
