Support pledged for possible Kilbowie buy out

Bulldozers could demolish Kilbowie Outdoor Centre from September 28. Oban Community Council has pledged its full support for a community buy out of Kilbowie Outdoor Centre.

Community councillor Laura Corbe updated the town’s community council on the latest move to save the centre at Gallanach from the bulldozers.

The September 24 meeting heard efforts under the Oban and Lorn Community Enterprise group were ongoing with talks to find out if a community buy out could be viable with financial help from the Scottish Land Fund.

An emergency motion calling for a halt on plans to demolish the centre is due to be heard at a full meeting of North Lanarkshire Council tomorrow on October 8 to help buy more time to preserve the centre due to go up for sale as a cleared site later this year.

Oban community council chairperson Marri Malloy said: ‘Oban Community Council will give its full support.’

Inquiries are also being made to see if there is any legal mention in Kilbowie documents that say the centre should be maintained for educational use, the meeting was told.
