Mo’unga produced a devastating Dulcify Quality display. Source: Steve Hart. Impressive colt Mo’unga looks to have the Spring Champion Stakes at his mercy after Chris Waller ‘s rising star proved to be a cut above in the Listed Dulcify Quality (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
A tilt at the Randwick 2000m Group 1 on October 10 is high on Waller’s wishlist after Mo’unga comfortably dispatched of his rivals in his maiden city test.
The Savabeel three-year-old had been unbeaten in two starts at the Gold Coast and Newcastle before producing an eye catching display at his home track.
Jockey James McDonald came from the back half of the field before Mo’unga ($2.70 fav) powered through the line to beat stablemate Global Quest ($8) with the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Jet Propulsion ($12) in third.
"He is a very nice horse," Waller said.
"They were decent horses he was racing against and he got back from his wide draw, settled and bided his time.
"He came through them like a real professional. Like Lonhro bursting through with the white socks on."
Mo’unga is now the outright $2.80 favourite for the Spring Champion Stakes after sharing top billing with the Richard and Michael Freedman-trained Love Tap at $6 before the race.
TAB .com.au shortened Mo’unga from $26 into $11 for both the Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas markets.
