EABL’s logo redesign competition submission phase closes with over 380 entries

East African Breweries Limited (EABL) has announced that the first phase of Got Skillz? , a competition that will culminate in the redesign of the company logo.

Entries into the competition were opened on 27th June and was closed on 11th July. It was open to artists from across East Africa aged between the ages of 21 and 25 years. The artists were invited to submit their artistic interpretations of how a new EABL logo would look like at eabl.com/gotskillz. The submissions could be made by individuals or by a group of up to four people.

The competition received 386 entries by artists. The competition was open to artists between the ages of 21 and 25 from across the region. There were subsequently 359 submissions from Kenya, 24 from Uganda and three from Tanzania. All the submissions were by individuals and 20 of them will now be picked by the judges to proceed to a hackathon scheduled for Saturday, July 20 at Nairobi Garage.

Judges will now go through the submissions, judging them on the interpretation and clarity of the theme to the artist, creativity, originality, the quality of the composition and the overall impression of the art. The submissions will be judged on their adaptability as a logo and whether it stands out as a complete and outstanding work of art that can be converted into a brand identity with ease.

The panel of judges comprises of advertising experts, art, copy and creative directors with decades of experience in the industry and who have participated in the creation of brand designs for big organisations across the region.

At the hackathon, the 20 artists will get guidance from the judges as they improve their submissions to the best possible design and will then make a presentation on how they went about creating their interpretation of the logo. The judges will then consider the final designs and communicate their decision at a later date.

The winning submission will win a cash prize of Ksh. 1 million, while the second and third placed will each receive a cash prize of Ksh. 500,000 and Ksh. 300,000 respectively.

The top three will get the opportunity to work with a team of talented creative and advertising experts from J. Walter Thompson Kenya (a part of Scangroup) to work on finalising the new EABL logo.
