Tavaziva Chadamoyo Madzinga, who has been Swiss Re ’s UK & Ireland chief executive since 2019, is moving to African financial services group Britam Holdings Plc.

In its announcement, Britam said Madzinga is coming onboard on February 01 as group managing director to succeed Dr Benson Irungu Wairegi. It was noted that an in-depth two-year recruitment process was conducted to find the retiring leader’s replacement.

“On behalf of our shareholders and the board, I want to express my deep appreciation to Dr Wairegi for his steady leadership which has seen Britam experience rapid growth during his tenure as the group managing director,” stated chairman Andrew Hollas.

“The board appreciates Dr Wairegi’s service and wish him the very best in his future endeavours. As a result of his experience in the industry, Britam will continue tapping into his skills in different capacities.”

Additionally, Hollas highlighted Wairegi’s four-decade service – the diligence of which has helped developed Britam into a Nairobi Securities Exchange listed multinational company.

Madzinga, meanwhile, brings more than 20 years of insurance industry experience to the post.

The University of Cape Town alumnus is an actuarial scientist who has attended INSEAD Business School in France and Harvard Business School in the US. After one and a half decades at Old Mutual, he joined Swiss Re in November 2016 and was previously in charge of the Middle East and Africa region.

“The board is confident that the company will benefit immensely from Mr Madzinga’s skills, knowledge, and vast experience,” commented Hollas.
