KPLC Loses Spot in the Top Movers Category but Gains 2.07% in Share Price

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) lost its second position in the top movers’ category after selling 204,000 shares on Wednesday, down from 3.19 million shares on Tuesday.

While the Power generating company lost its spot at the top movers’ club, its share market price went up by 2.07 percentage points to close the day at 2.96 shillings from 2.90 shillings the previous day.

KPLC recorded a turnover of 603,175 shillings on Wednesday, down from a turnover of 16.11 million shillings on Tuesday.

Uchumi Supermarket took the top position in the top gainers’ category on Wednesday at the NSE, after its share market price gained by 7.69 percent to close the day at 0.28 shillings.

Uchumi sold a total of 19,300 shares and recorded a turnover of 5,347 shillings on Wednesday.

Looking at Uchumi’s share price since December 2019, the stock has been on a downward trend from 0.39 shillings on December 6 th , till now.

Nonetheless, 0.39 shillings hasn’t been Uchumi’s lowest share price since on two occasions, 10 th and 17 th January, the price went down to as little as 0.25 shillings.

Large-cap stocks such as Safaricom, KCB and Equity Group dominated the top movers’ category at the NSE.

Safaricom sold the highest volume of shares on Wednesday at 8.16 million, followed by KCB Group at 3.23 million, KenGen at 750,400, Equity at 373,400 and Centum Investment at 240,300.

While Safaricom sold the largest volume of shares, its share price lost 0.16 percentage points to close the day at 31.50 shillings and recorded a turnover of 256.84 million shillings.

KCB Group followed Safaricom at a distance in the top movers’ category, closing the day selling its shares at 51.50 shillings on Wednesday, from 51.75 shillings the previous day.While Equity retained its fourth position in the top movers’ category, the volume of shares it sold at the NSE went down from 1.68 million to 373,400.The table below shows a summary of the top gainers, losers and movers at the NSE ON Tuesday: Source: myStocks!
