Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has received two prestigious awards from the Airport Council International (ACI).
The ACI is a world-acclaimed body for the measurement and benchmarking of customer experiences at airports.
It announced the winners of its Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards on Monday, March 9, 2020. KIA, per a report by myjoyonline.com , was the winner of Africa’s ‘Best Airport By Size and Region’ award for airports with passenger population between two and five million.
Its Terminal 3, which provides services for regional, international and long-haul operators, was also identified as the ‘Most Improved’ Airport in the year under review.
The awards, released in Montreal, Canada, also takes into consideration the largest number of winning airports every year.
Per a report by classfmonline.com, Terminal 3 was partly funded by the African Development Bank.
The US$250 million project was constructed in March 2016 and became fully functional on September 15, 2018. It was provided to ease pressure on the existing two terminals at KIA.The terminal comprises five levels spread across an area of 48,268m² and semi-closed areas for the Baggage Make-up Areas of 28,260m², Ultra-Modern facilities and capacity to handle 5 million passengers a year; capacity to process 1,250 passengers per hour; six boarding bridges; 7 links (expandable to 8 in the future); Large retail area (7000m²), CIP terminal and 707 Car parking slots and a new Road network.In other news, according to the details of a recent survey conducted by the Bank of Ghana, some banks in Ghana charge 7.75% as fees aside from the interest to be paid on retail loans.A retail loan is a facility given to customers of banks, credit unions or financial institutions in order to help them purchase assets.The survey, which was carried out between October and December 2019, covered all the 23 banks operating in Ghana.The Central Bank indicated that retail customers pay five different fees on loans to commercial banks.
