Leading African bank opens doors to Chinese enterprises in Ghana

ACCRA, June 7 (Xinhua) — Access Bank, one of the leading banks in Africa, announced on Friday it has opened its doors of support to Chinese businesses operating in Ghana.

Speaking during the China Business Forum organized by the bank, Olumide Olatunji, managing director of Access Bank Ghana, said it is exciting to do business with Chinese enterprises.

"Access Bank has established a fully dedicated Chinese business desk in Ghana. This is ably supported by our representative office in China to enable us to facilitate trade and provide financial solutions for customers who operate within this space," he said.

Zhang Wenhai, senior banking advisor to the bank, explained that the bank’s initiative is of great importance for China-Africa cooperation.

"Access Bank started business in 2014, and our role is to help bridge the language gap between the Chinese customers and the bank," he explained to Xinhua.

Zhang said business is booming because the bank and advisers are keeping to their strategy.

Trade between China and Ghana grew from 2.1 billion U.S. dollars in 2010 to 6.6 billion dollars in 2018.

Yin Jun, secretary-general of China Traders Chamber of Commerce in Ghana, expressed the hope that the bank’s support will help Chinese businesses in the country expand and create value for the Ghanaian economy.
