Mr Wilson Arthur, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wassa-East, has called on corporate entities to support the Assembly in the fight against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said as a District which practiced entrepreneurial governance, it would continue to rely on resources from NGOs, the private sector and public- spirited individuals to provide goods and services to make development meaningful to the people. Kaya Spirits Mr Arthur made the plea when Nana Ama Animah II, the Queenmother of Daboase; Mr William Agyei Amponsah ,the Administrative and Human Resource Manager at Plantation Socfinaf Ghana(PSG); and Mr Nicholas Adorsu, the Director of External Relations, jointly donated assorted Personal, Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Daboase community to help fight the spread of the COVID-19.
The PPEs include Veronica buckets, nose masks, liquid soaps, Dettol, tissue papers, hand sanitizers, water basins and carbolic soaps.
Mr Arthur said it is quite refreshing that Nananom who usually did not make donations directly to communities have done so in these trying times and commended the move by the Queenmother of Daboase for the noble gesture.
The DCE used the occasion to acknowledge support from organizations such as Golden Star Resources (GSR), PSG, NGOs like World University State of Canada (WUSC) amongst others since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.
Mr Arthur said the District has so far recorded zero case of COVID-19 because indigenes took the national prayers and fasting held in April very seriously.
He said the District also identified 16 entry points where health security guards were strategically positioned to screen people entering the district to ensure that “we don’t get positive cases to infect others”.
The DCE said in some communities watchdog groups have been formed to check strangers or alert the District COVID-19 Response Team to take samples of people for testing.
Mr Arthur said the District was on top of handling the COVID-19 scourge, adding that market centers have been supplied with free PPEs.
The DCE announced that a 40-bed isolation facility was under development to equip the health sector deal with any suspected case of COVID-19.
